Swindon Conservative Group Leadership re-elected unopposed

Council Leader Councillor David Renard and Deputy Leader Russell Holland

Swindon’s Conservative Borough Councillors re-elected Councillor David Renard as Group Leader and Councillor Russell Holland as Deputy Group Leader at their Annual General Meeting on Monday 8th May 2017.  Both contests were unopposed.

Councillor Renard thanked his colleagues for their confidence in him and his Administration.  The result means he will continue as Leader of Swindon Borough Council, which has had a Conservative majority since June 2004.

Councillor Renard said:  “Now is a time when the Council as well as the country needs strong, stable leadership.  There are many challenging decisions ahead but I am ready to make those tough choices to deliver the Council’s Vision, Priorities and 30 pledges.”

Councillor Renard will now be consulting with Councillor Holland about appointing up to eight other councillors to act as Cabinet Members for the 2017/18 Municipal Year.
