Cllr Mary Martin, cabinet member for children and school attainment said, “We are working with the Police and other agencies to combat the threat that drug dealing, knife crime and particularly the networks of county lines that bring drugs to regional towns by targeting vulnerable young people.
I met with Home Secretary Sajid Javid along with North and South Swindon MPs Justin Tomlinson and Robert Buckland and Cllrs David Renard (Council Leader), Russell Holland (Deputy Leader), Cllr Cathy Martyn (Housing and Public Safety).
It’s clear that that the gangs are very focussed in finding vulnerable young people who they can groom to become part of their network. They may first be enticed by promises of gifts or money to carry drugs. The next step can be a staged mugging to steal the drugs which then puts them into debt bondage and unable to stop.
So if you have any concerns about an individual child, please contact children’s social services and help us break this cycle.
