09/12/09 - Swindon Council Upgraded To Three Stars

We have just had it confirmed that under the Audit Commission has awarded Swindon 3 stars an improvement on the 2 stars we were awarded last year.

This represents the continuing year on year success of the transformation journey started under Cllr Mike Bawden in 2003 when we first formed the minority administration and which has gathered pace since we took overall control in 2004.

It took Labour decades to ruin Swindon and to make our borough a by-word for failure.  We are now making sure that Swindon is known nationally and internationally as a place of success, of innovation and of the future.

Cllr Justin Tomlinson, North Swindon Parliamentary Candidate, "After 25 years of Labour control we were rated the joint worst Council in the UK with a zero star rating.  Education and Social Services were both in special measures, a culmination of the disgracefully poor leadership of the failed Labour Councillors. 

I am delighted that the year on year improvements under our control have helped deliver better services and facilities, whilst keeping Council Tax inline with inflation.
