05/11/09 - Shadow Minsiter Visits Fire Station on Guy Fawkes Day

Cllr Justin Tomlinson and Robert Buckland, Swindon's parliamentary candidates, have accompanied shadow minister Stewart Jackson on a visit to Swindon's main fire station.
Stewart is Shadow Minister for Communities & Local Government with special responsibility for the Fire & Rescue services.

As part of a day-long visit to Swindon on November 5th, he was given a tour of the fire station on Drove Road and met managers and staff.

Stewart said, "I was very impressed with the professionalism of everyone I met at Swindon Fire Station.  The service has a proud record of serving the community and a Conservative government will always support them".

Cllr Justin Tomlinson, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for North Swindon, said, "Yet again a senior Conservative has visited Swindon, not for a cheap photo opportunity like Labour's ministers, but on a serious fact-finding visit.  I was delighted that Stewart came to see for himself the excellent work done by the local fire service staff".

Robert Buckland, Conservative Parliamentary candidate for South Swindon, said, "Stewart took time to talk to senior management and listened to what they had to say.  I know he will take that back to Conservative HQ and it will really make a difference when it comes to policy-making for a future Conservative government".
