Robert Buckland, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for South Swindon, has hailed last Saturday's Green Day in Liden as a huge success. Local residents and community groups turned out in their masses to support the campaign, organised by local Conservatives. Members of the large group split into various teams, then dispersed all over Liden and set to work.

It was quite shocking and shameful that so much litter was discovered. However, the amount of litter that was collected (over fifty bags) gave us all a sense of pride, having made such a tremendous difference as a result of our hard work.

The photographs speak for themselves and show that by working together, communities really can make a difference and create a much nicer environment for us all to live in and for our children to grow up happily and play safely.

We would like to say a massive thank you to the 1st Dorcan Scout Group (Beavers, Scouts and Cubs) who all worked extremely hard and have not only achieved making their area a cleaner and nicer place to live but in doing so have also each earned their very important Environmental badge.
We would also like to thank the Women's Institute, our Neighbourhood Policing Team (especially PCSO Tom Fryska), all the local residents who supported the event and Liden Community Centre for their support.
Cllr Kevin Parry, "Green Day was very easy to organise but the level of success is only measured by the number of people who came to support this event. I am a great believer in Community spirit, something which was beautifully demonstrated at the Green Day. It was lovely to see so many local residents of all ages pulling together to make such a difference to the Ward; it was truly overwhelming.''
Cllr Roderick Bluh, "It was wonderful to receive so much support from the local community. The team work that was displayed was tremendous.''
Cllr Andy Albinson, "It was a great opportunity to join together with local residents to improve the area.''
Robert Buckland (South Swindon Parliamentary Candidate), "It was great to see people of all generations turning out to help clean up Liden Centre and the surrounding area. The fact that over fifty bags of rubbish were collected goes to prove that getting involved can make a real difference. Thanks to Liam for letting me drive his van to pick up all the bags!''
