Cllr Justin Tomlinson Signing Up To Support 'Year Of The Heart'
'Saving the Life you Love' is the message behind a new campaign launched today as part of 'Swindon 2009 - Year of the Heart', and supported by North Swindon parliamentary candidate Cllr Justin Tomlinson.
The campaign aims to improve Swindon's health and well-being and, crucially, to reduce the number of heart-related deaths in the town. Swindonians suffered over 5,000 such incidents in 2008 alone - one of the worst records in the south west.
The launch, which was held at the Liddington Hotel, was attended by Cllr Justin Tomlinson, as well as representatives from the local NHS Primary Care Trust and Swindon Borough Council.
Cllr Justin Tomlinson said, "I was delighted to sponsor and provide some of the promotional material for this event, as I have been a long-standing supporter of the British Heart Foundation, having lost my father at an early age to a heart attack. As the former Lead Member for Leisure & Recreation, as well as the Abbey Meads Councillor, I have been active in delivering improved leisure facilities, to allow local residents a greater opportunity to stay fit and healthy. I hope local people will join me in supporting 'Swindon 2009 - Year of the Heart.'''
