Swindon Advertiser Letters Page - Town Centre Regeneration
I was disgusted to read the self-serving, self-aggrandizing nonsense that passed for Anne Snelgrove's column this week in trying to claim credit for Swindon town centre's regeneration scheme and to belittle the hundreds of hours of work by Phil Young, Rod Bluh and myself, and the council officers in bringing this deal to fruition. Her attempt to airbrush the council out of the scheme, when the council owns one third of the New Swindon Company, is a slap in the face for Swindon and all those who seek to improve the town.
I challenge Ms Snelgrove to publish:
1) Every letter she has written either to the NSC, SBC or the government in support of this project as I have received none.
2) Details of every meeting she has attended about this project, as she has attended none of which I am aware.
The truth is that Ms Snelgrove was nothing more than a hostess. And even in that role she has been shown to be inadequate by trying to exaggerate her role out of all proportion. Her ability to throw herself under every passing band-wagon, and still miss, illustrates how she has failed the people of Swindon.
The people of Swindon deserve better than this. Ms Snelgrove, go now and remember to turn out your office light.
Yours sincerely
Cllr Peter Greenhalgh
Cabinet Lead Member for Highways, Transport and Strategic Planning
