20/11/07 - EU Treaty - Gordon Give Us A Vote!

Swindon Conservatives have launched a campaign to support calls demanding for a referendum on the EU Treaty.

Gordon Brown claims no referendum is needed on the EU treaty because it does not affect Britain’s sovereignty in any significant way.  Nonsense – it will lead to a huge swathe of powers being surrendered to Brussels.  Areas of concern include:

• The creation of a powerful EU president

• A foreign minister in all but name

• Scrapping the British veto in 11 areas of foreign policy

• A commitment to ‘mutual defence’

• Ending the veto in energy policy

• Ending the veto over legal migration

• The Charter of Fundamental Rights

• The European Court of Justice could set sentences for criminals

• European public prosecutor could investigate British citizens

• A five year limited ‘opt-out’ in areas of justice and home affairs

• Scrapping the British veto on sports

The two Labour's for Swindon must listen to local residents.  There is overwhelming support for a referendum.  Labour can not continue to sign away our powers.  To sell Britain out it is nothing short of a disgrace and local residents will remember this when it comes to the next General Election.
