Cllr Justin Tomlinson - Oasis
Swindon Council, 50 Promises - Promise 21: We will introduce a Sports Council in 2006 that works with local, regional and national sports organisations to establish Swindon as a centre of sports excellence.
Swindon Borough Council is committed to establishing the town as a centre for sporting excellence and it has already achieved Promise 21 by setting up a Sports Council in March 2006.
The most recent meeting Forum took place today saw in excess of 50 representatives from local sports clubs and associations. The Forum also became a fully constitutional organisation.
There was an opportunity for club members to question to Cllr Justin Tomlinson (Lead Member for Leisure and Culture) and senior officers responsible for Leisure. Topics covered included: plans for the Oasis, Link and County Ground Sports Facilities, access to PFI sports facilities, sports strategy and new pitches.
Cllr Justin Tomlinson said "I am delighted that the Swindon Sports Council / Forum has become a fully constitutional organisation. Since the forum was launched in March 2006 the members have played an excellent role in supporting, advising and shaping sports and leisure in Swindon. As the Lead Member for Leisure, Recreation & Culture I value their work and input - it is their hands on experience that will help drive up active participation rates in Swindon."
