South Swindon's Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Robert Buckland lent his support on Saturday afternoon to Livefest, a charity event run to raise awareness of adults with learning difficulties.
Livefest, originally scheduled to take place in May, was postponed due to bad weather until Saturday when it took place in a field at Redland Farm, Wanborough.
The multicultural celebration was set up to raise awareness of Learning For Life, the Swindon organisation which helps adults with learning difficulties reach their full potential through a range of courses, which can help them find jobs and develop their confidence.
Robert met with Learning For Life tutor and event organiser Trish Rawlins, who had hoped that the event would bring together Swindon's "melting pot" of cultures, with DJs playing a range of styles including Brazilian, Rn'B, reggae and Indian music. Robert will be having a future meeting with the Learning For Life group to find out what can be done to boost their work in the community.
Learning for Life provides free courses, including laying on transport or covering travel expenses for members. It is as much about building their skills' base it is about increasing people's confidence levels and getting them comfortably back in to the workplace.
Robert said: "It was a bit of a disappointment for the organisers and it was a great shame because the motives behind it were very good indeed. Learning For Life is a really important organisation locally.
"I wanted to go down beause I very much support what they are doing.''
