11/03/07 - Green Action Day in Swindon's Central Ward

South Swindon Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Robert Buckland led a team of volunteers working in Swindon's Central ward yesterday as part of the Conservative Party's "Green Action Day" progamme of events across the country.

Robert and Central Ward Conservative spokesperson Karen Leakey, together with a team of Party supporters, helped to clean up a litter-strewn hedgerow close to the County Ground on Saturday morning.  The team filled two car boot loads of bin liners as a result of their efforts.  Some graffiti was also removed.

"Its easy to talk about improving our environment, but actions speak louder than words" said Robert.  "When David Cameron talks about social responsibility, he is reminding all of us that we are jointly responsible for the quality of our neighbourhoods and that very often, it is best to take action directly with an issue rather than always expecting someone else to do it."

"I was delighted to be joined by Karen Leakey and a team of party helpers.  Karen is a committed and active member of the local community in Central Ward, so the Green Action Day that she helped to organise is very much her kind of project.  We really put our backs into clearing the hedge - I have a few scratches to prove it!"

"This will be the first in what I hope will be many such projects across the constituency."
said Robert.
