Sir,
Further to Charles Hendry MP's letter to the Adver, we write pledging our total support for retention of local post offices. In 2004, Swindon lost three sub-post offices, making a total of nine sub post offices that have closed since 1999, despite high-profile campaigns to save them. We could lose as many as five further sub post offices under the Labour Government's closure progamme, due to start next Summer. What a Christmas present to the people of Swindon!
As your Conservative Parliamentary Candidates, we will do everything we can to oppose any further closures in Swindon. Post Offices are a vital amenity for all of us, but most importantly are a lifeline to many vulnerable members of our society. It is just not acceptable for Tony Blair to state that people do not use them when the reduction in the range of services offered by Post Offices has been his Government's own doing.
We call upon the Government to think again and to scrap the proposed closure progamme.
Yours faithfully,
Robert Buckland - South Swindon Conservative Parliamentary Candidate
Cllr Justin Tomlinson - North Swindon Conservative Parliamentary Candidate
