28/11/06 - Cllr Tomlinson, Nythe Crime Meeting

I attended an excellent public meeting to address the escalating anti-social behaviour problems in Nythe.  This meeting was organised by the hardworking Conservative Councillors in the Covingham & Nythe ward (Cllr's Glenn Smith, Dale Heenan & Phil Young).

Over 100 residents attended, extremely keen to put across their frustrations that the yobs are running free, causing untold problems.  The police and anti-social behaviour teams were on hand to address specific issues, and offer advice on the how they could work with local residents to tackle this disgraceful position.

Last week a Labour Minister came to Swindon (Moredon) to tell us just how well they are dealing with anti-social behaviour.  Well from the huge turnout at this meeting, and the strength of feeling of local residents we beg to differ.  We will be relentless on chasing this Government to finally put the law abiding majority before the criminal minority.  Whilst dispersal orders can help move on the problem, the real solution is getting these yobs off the streets - no excuses.
