Cllr Peter Mallinson Has Joined The Conservatives
Cllr Peter Mallinson (Walcot Ward) is the latest Labour Councillor to join the Conservatives.
In the last 12 months Cllr Mavis Childs (Walcot), Cllr David Wren (Dorcan) and Cllr Sinead Darker (Central) have already joined the Conservatives.
The new Swindon Council make up is now:
Conservative 42 Councillors
Labour 12 Councillors
Liberals 3 Councillors
Independents 2 Councillors
Cllr Justin Tomlinson, North Swindon Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, "This is the fourth Labour Councillor that I have been able to convince to join the Conservatives. We are the only party who is working positively to improve Swindon, and I am delighted that yet another hard working, well respected local Councillor has agreed to join the Conservatives.
"There is a very clear message for Labour voters... if their own Councillors won't even vote Labour, why should you?"
Robert Buckland, South Swindon Conservative Parliamentary Candidate said: "I am delighted that Peter, who is a hard working councillor, has decided to join us. He, like the others before him, realises that only the Conservatives can deliver for the people of Swindon. Labour is a spent force here - a complete irrelevance. We have to make sure that they become a spent force at Westminster, too."
"I look forward to working with him in Walcot ward in the years ahead."
