Conservative-run Council secures support for those giving a home to refugees.

Councillor Russell Holland, the Conservative Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Finance and Commercialisation, has approved a new policy that will help those providing a temporary home for asylum seekers.

Under the new policy, a person receiving a single person discount on their Council Tax would still be able to claim it if they were providing a home for a refugee who was in the country legally but who did not have a national insurance number and the ability to earn their own income.

Councillor Holland said, “The UK has a longstanding tradition of assisting refugees and I am pleased to be able to support those who are offering a home to a refugee.  I would like to thank Councillor Paul Dixon for raising this issue and I am pleased that this is receiving support from all political parties.”
