Homeless People Around Covingham Square
Many residents have contacted Barbara, Dale and I regarding the rough sleepers at Covingham Square. Whilst it is difficult to comment on this, we have been working with Housing and Enforcement to try and resolve this issue.
I am pleased to say that Highways have agreed to carry out some repairs to the pavement between Larksfield and the back of Covingham school field.
I have also asked the Highways Officer to inspect the path around Covingham Green.
Due to the extreme hot weather and lack of rain we have seen pavements crack. Please do let me know if there is a path that you think is a safety concern and I will arrange for it be inspected.
I have arranged for the path behind Liden Green play park to have some repairs carried out.
New Road Signs
New, updated and improved signs are being fitted around the Dorcan Way area.
I was delighted to launch ‘Refill Swindon’ which is a national campaign to reduce plastic and to also encourage people to drink more water. Costa, Nandos at the Orbital, the Darkroom, Pulse, The Core, Rays Ice Cream are the first to sign up. They will have a blue badge offering to fill you bottle up your water bottle for free. This will also go to help reduce litter.
Neighbourhood Watch Signs
Barbara, Dale and I have secured £500 towards Neighbourhood watch signs. This includes replacement covers for existing ones. The new ones are yellow and replace the old blue and white ones. We are keen to replace them so if you are a street rep or would like to become one please do contact with me so we can arrange for one to be fitted. We can also add you to our Neighbourhood Watch network. There is minimal time and effort commitment for Street Reps, it would be great if we could have one for every street in the Ward to make it an even safer place to live.
Community Speed Watch
Barbara and I have now completed our stage one in training on Community Speedwatch. Barbara and I will be based in Covingham but will be able to also support other areas.
Barbara and I are looking to set up Street Watch which has been very successful in different parts of the country. Full details can be found on www.street-watch.org. This can involve just two hours per month of your time and has shown to make a big difference in reducing Anti-Social Behaviour and crime.
The Great Stall Bridge
Whilst some Councillors have made noises about the Great Stall bridge being open to all traffic. Barbara, Dale and I continue to work hard to ensure that this bridge is not built, let alone opened to all traffic. Investing in road infrastructure and improvements to road layout, longer slip roads and dualling the southern connector road and be far the better solution. Barbara, Dale and I will continue working with Highways to ensure this bridge never happens.
